Stardate:2406.10.14 Stardate: 2406.10.14 (Red Claw - Cockpit - Major Menelian - 0900) "Imogene..." the Romulan growled, "You are annoying me again." =/=Perhaps you should grow a thicker skin?=\= The Romulan fighter pilot cursed the day he decided to transfer his MAKO's AI into his spiffy new Void Sphinx Space Superiority Fighter. The AI needed to be reprogrammed, had for a year; he simply hadn't had the time. He put his hand on the Impulse throttle control for a moment, not saying a word, then removed it and tapped a button on the control panel. The Fighter came out of warp immediately, the impulse engines kicked on once the warp field had dissolved, and the fighter continued screaming forward at flank battle speed. The Romulan smiled at the feeling of power beneath him, the Sphinx was small, but powerful. With a squadron, he could take on a Starship. With three squadrons, he could raise all manner of hell. In the end, to his method of thinking, it was far more satisfying then the career in Security he had given up. =/=We are approaching Starbase Geneva's defensive perimeter.=\= His eyes glanced at the HUD for confirmation, not that the computer-controlled HUD would say anything different then the computer itself. Habit was hard to break. "Open a channel." Without argument, which was a rarity in all things but strictly duty related activities, Imogene opened the channel. "This is USS Red Claw, NCC 87459, commanded by Lieutenant Major Menelian... requesting clearance and flight path to the USS Paladin." Several seconds passed and the Romulan's hand tightened slightly on his control stick. If they decided he was a spy, planet or otherwise engaged in mischief... he would have to break way fast. A few shots from those heavy phaser arrays would send him spinning nose over arse in a hurry. Then he gave a sigh of relief (though he would never admit it) when a voice came over the line, =^=USS Redclaw, clearance given and your path is set. Clear sailing.=^= "Acknowledged." The Romulan consulted his HUD again as the projected flight path was plotted, then altered course slightly. He could clearly see the station, and not far away, the mammoth Starship in which he was to serve. It wasn't a change for him, the Cochrane had been the same class vessel and he was going to have the same style of command. The only word he had been given about his change of orders was that his experience would be better used in a projected combat zone, rather then on the fringe on a science vessel. Those words had sent pleasurable tingles up his back. After several minutes of full impulse, due to Geneva's exaggerated Security perimeter, he finally got within close range of the Paladin. She was mammoth, but as long as she had the room for his fighter-craft, he didn't care. He tapped his communications panel, "Flight Squadron Leader Menelian in the Red Claw to USS Paladin, requesting permission to dock." Seconds passed, again, then =^=Red Claw is cleared to dock, proceed to Fighter Bay 1.=^= "Very well, Red Claw out." He pulled the impulse control back fully and kicked on the thrusters with his feet. The ship slowed greatly as he wound himself to the bottom decks where the Fighter bays were. Though he could have let Imogene bring him in, he enjoyed doing this manually. He passed the large doors of the bay, wide enough to sail four craft through at once, and followed the Flight Controller to an empty stable for his ship. Then, with no ado whatsoever, he set her down. =/=That was fun.=\= "Your idea of fun is getting a tune-up from a particularly adept computer," He growled. "My idea of fun is getting away from you for a while. So, redefine your ideal of fun if you would." =/=I'll think about it.=\= "You do that," he said as the cockpit popped open. "In the mean time, I have things to do." He stepped out of the ship before she could respond, and onto a ramp that had been set up by one of the Hanger Engineers. "Permission to come aboard?" he asked. The Officer of the Deck, who had sauntered over, looked at him funny for a few moments and nodded. "Granted." "Computer, location of the Captain?" he paused, thinking of her name. "Captain Straton?" It had only been 5 months since he arrived on Geneva during a crisis where they had all been transformed into children. The speed in which he and the Geneva crew moving on to other things. The USS Paladin was a moving starbase, we at least now he was not going to be as easy to shoot at. Geneva had been blown to pieces in recent times and took a lot of damage. The current situation with breaking from the fleet was leading to what he presumed the necessity not to have such a big floating target. Areap looked out the porthole as the shuttle closed upon the new ship. She floated close to Geneva collecting supplies and crew. ~She is big, ill give them that much, ~ Areap thought to himself as he came across her. (USS Paladin - Bridge - TAC/SC - Lt.Cmdr Areap'Sul - 11:05) After getting lost for the 5 time in the maze of tunnels that was his new ship, if Areap had possessed hair he was sure it would have been yanked by now. The bridge was full of engineers and unfamiliar crew, Areap grinned to himself. Matrix was going to have a fun time getting used to the systems of the ship. Locating the Captain's ready room Areap walked over and pressed the enucator. "Captain Straton, Lieutenant Commander Areap'Sul reporting for duty," Areap stated standing to attention. The ships name was now officially the USS Paladin. Eva allowed her self a small smile as she stepped out of the turbo lift and onto the bridge. Like the rest of the ship, it was huge, much larger than Sovereign's bridge. Here was the brain of the ship. Eva nodded at a couple members of the crew still working on finishing putting the ship back together, as she moved across the Bridge toward her Ready Room. She suspected that her crew would soon be arriving on the ship and reporting in. Plus she still had some work to do before the ship could get under way. The place was large, no doubt about it. The only other thing that came close was Operations aboard a Starbase. It was one of the things about the ship class that Menelian detested... he preferred small and functional. Although, he admitted to himself, something small and functional wouldn't be nearly as efficient on something this size. There had to be dozens of stations, whole sections, devoted to certain parts of the ship. Engineering, Fighter Control, Security also had a good sized space and several panels... both for internal and external Security and Tactical. He shrugged the thought off and walked over to the Ready Room. He wasn't on board to muse about Starbase Theoretical Design; he was here to provide gun-cover for this beast. She was big, she was powerful, she had as many weapons as a small Starbase... but she was slow, she was as graceful as a Klingon in heat, and she made a -very- pretty target. ~Might as well paint a big red X on her side, or park her in place like younger Starbase.~ He pushed the enunciator to the Ready Room without any hesitation. Despite the two days he had spent in the craft along the river, he had managed to make himself presentable before he came out of warp. (Reply: CO, any) (posted by Trout)
